Peace light lantern

The floating lantern on the Wolfgangsee is 19 m high, it is the unique symbol of the Wolfgangsee Advent:
The Friedenslicht Laterne, inviting you to pause, reflect and remember.

Visible from afar, it lights the way for people arriving from the opposite shore and as a popular photo subject it carries its message of peace into the world.
The Baroque Presentation

The market stalls alone are worth a visit, the Baroque-style art creating a unique open-air exhibition.
The facades of the stalls display colourful Baroque-style scenes typical for the Advent period.

The lively painted figures, by the artist Raja Schwahn-Reichmann, of people, angels, and animals, are inspired by the three-dimensionality of Baroque wall and ceiling paintings, repeatedly providing the observer with new and loving details to enjoy.
Floating Comet

In Strobl a floating comet of around 6 Meter long floats on the lake surface creating a shining reflection in the Wolfgangsee.

For the very first time visitors of the Advent Markets can enjoy the special advent atmosphere directly on the lake – on a floating Advent hut which is built on a mighty raft (250m²).
Punch specialities are served amidst enchanting figures next to a cosy fireplace surrounded by trees.
Live Nativity scenes
-
The comet guides the way to the Nativity display with live animals. Oxen, donkeys and angels guard this peaceful oasis for reflection and cast their spell on their young visitors. For the youngest there are animals to stroke and pony riding.

Boat rides

From the wintry lake you can enjoy a truly picturesque view of the Advent villages’ attractions. The delightful scenery can be admired from the comfort of a heated boat, making the winter ride across the lake a comfortable as well as unforgettable experience.

During Advent the Wolfgangsee Boat service runs a daily (use link for details).

Schafbergbahn

The famous cog railroad to the Schafberg goes also this year on the Advent weekends.
From the valley stadion goes a confortable drive, depending on the weather conditions, to the snak-bar Aschinger or to the Dornalpe. There you have a beautiful view over the wintry lanke Wolfgang.

Traditions, St Gilgen

Walk along Ischlerstraße from the Fischerwirt on the lakeside to the church square, and see four traditional huts display how people experienced the pre-Christmas period in days gone by.

Spinning and knitting, visits from Nikolaus and Krampus as well as the distribution of Christmas presents on Christmas Eve are all beautifully displayed.
Mozart-ice

Near the boat station, opposite the Mozarthaus in St. Gilgen is a ice rink. Ice amusement for the hole family on 350 m².

Take a walk with us through Strobl’s romantic Krippendorf, and enjoy seeing and hearing about the various nativity scenes and their associated stories.
Angel Post Office

In the municipal post office, children can dictate their letters to the Christkind.

Helpful Christmas Angels will help the children formulate their wishes and pass them on directly to the Christkind. Opening hours every Advent day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m..

Advent bakery and handicrafts’ workroom

Angel bakery and Advent handicrafts’ workroom: In the exhibition bakery you can watch tempting delicacies being made (St. Wolfgang at the Uferplatz: Lebzelterei Gandl) and sample the sweet pastries.

Your children can make presents themselves under supervision. In this free time, you can play the Christ-child and enjoy the Advent markets.

Mozart house St Gilgen

There is a Mozart Memorial in the former district court built in 1719-1720, werhe you can see a Maria Anna Mozart - called "Nannerl" exhibition.

W.A. Mozart’s mother was born on 25. December 1720 and his sister "Nannerl" also lived there from 1784 to 1801.

The Cultural Club Mozartdorf presents an Advent Market on the 5th and the 6th of December, as well as on the 12th and the 13th December from 1.00 pm to 6.00 pm in the Mozarthaus / Dienerstöckl.

Advent calender at the retirement home „Haus Maria“

Starting on the 1st of December every day a window of the Advent calender, arranged by the students of the Secundary school of St. Gilgen, will be openend.

Advent gates and lantern light

Visitors enter the idyllic market through one of the huge Advent gates.

An especially beautiful path from the parking place to the centre leads along the street which is decorated with hundreds of fir trees, romantically illuminated with burning torches and lanterns, several metres high.
Museum of Local History

In addition to the historical the 11 rooms of the museum are open and animated especially for Advent visitors. Apart from the historical exhibit of peasant art, skilful women will be lace-making. Admire their dexterity in this 17th century living room, beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Museum of Musical Instruments

A variety of musical instruments, collected from all around the world. It is a visit worth.
Every Thursday and Friday, between 2.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. is in the museum a free short guide tour.

Wine tasting

In the "Felsenkeller" of the Weissen Rössl, quality wines of special vintages from various top Austrian winemakers are stored.
